The meeting in 2004 between Luca Gargano and Arianna Occhipinti marked a moment of great importance for both Velier and the fledgling Sicilian company. With the inclusion of the wines in the Triple "A" catalogue, Arianna began to distribute the fruits of her hard work throughout Italy, soon gaining recognition for superior quality that led her to become one of the world's leading winemakers in the natural movement, eventually acquiring the name Natural Woman. Today, Occhipinti's wines, as well as her extra virgin olive oils, occupy the wine lists and kitchens of the world's greatest restaurants, but the bond between Velier and Arianna has only grown stronger: a true declaration of love.

Overview

History

The Azienda Agricola Arianna Occhipinti is located in Fossa di Lupo and was founded in 2004 thanks to the willpower of a young girl in love with her origins. A few kilometres from Vittoria, in Sicily, in this land cooled by the winds of the Iblei mountains, Arianna Occhipinti gave life to an agricultural project based on respect for the land that banned the use of pesticides, fungicides and herbicides, promoting the local plant and animal biodiversity and the fertility of the earth. Arianna soon established itself internationally thanks to its wines that perfectly describe the terroir in which they are born, thanks to a clean and respectful agronomic management and a completely natural cellar processing. In addition to the vineyards, the family-owned olive groves cultivate the historical Nocellara del Belice and Tonda Iblea cultivars, from which the monocultivar Gheta and Pantarèi eztravergine olive oils are produced.

Production method

From the olive groves owned by the Occhipinti family dating back to the 1600s comes Gheta Oil obtained from the Nocellara del Belice cultivar, a golden yellow extra virgin with a distinctly fruity flavour. A further 14 hectares in contrada Pirai in Chiaramonte Gulfi were purchased where centuries-old olive trees of the indigenous Tonda Ibela cultivar are cultivated from which comes the Olio Pantaréi, a green extra virgin oil with golden hues that stands out for its harmony with bitter and spicy nuances. Agronomic management is biodynamic, aimed at growing healthy fruit, which is harvested at the perfect stage of ripeness, in the second half of October for the Tonda Iblea and at the beginning of November for the Nocellara del Belice. The olives are harvested by hand and follow a processing based on continuous cold cycle extraction.
