Renegade
By Velier
Along the lines of Wateford, Renegade is the new project conceived by Mark Reyner. Realized by the creation of the distillery of the same name on the island of Grenada in 2020, Renegade proposes an innovative approach to the world of rum in which sugar cane is enhanced with an in-depth analysis of the terroir. The Pre-Cask range offers the individual expressions of each non-aged terroir, focusing on the importance of the raw material.
There are now 4 farms, 4 terroirs and 3 different sugar cane varieties available.
Overview
Story
Born in 2020 thanks to Mark Reyner, Renegade Distillery is located near Pearl, on the northeastern side of the island of Windward, in Grenada. Here the hilly and volcanic terrain offers a wide range of altitudes, soils and microclimates ideal for the cultivation of sugar cane: a true terroir of superior quality. This is where Renegade's innovative approach to the world of rum was born, which aims to enhance the varieties of cane and the terroir in which they are born. Technologically advanced and at the same time respectful of the environment, Renegade has been designed to produce up to one million liters of alcohol per year.
Production Method
The raw material is fundamental in the Renegade approach. The territory on which the sugar cane is born and the surrounding microclimate determine its character. For this reason, the distillery aims to explore the different terroirs of Grenada: one place, one farm at a time. To date, 4 farms, 4 terroirs and 3 different sugar cane varieties are available (Lacalome Red, rich in sucrose; Josh's Field, fast growing; Yellow Lady). Each process, from temperature-controlled fermentation to distillation, is carefully followed in the futuristic structure of the distillery. There is a column and a Pot Still still by Forsyths. The Pre-Cask range offers the individual expressions of each non-aged terroir, precisely to enhance the importance of the raw material. Each bottle has its own canecode which, when inserted, reveals new contents on the terroir and the entire production process.
