Port Askaig

By Velier

Our work with Port Askaig began with our collaboration with Sukhinder Singh. We met Sukhinder through Whisky Live in Paris and the Maison de Whisky. Right from the start, I felt an instinctive affinity with this visionary entrepreneur, who founded Speciality Drinks, the Whisky Exchange and Elixir Distiller’s in England – the production company which, alongside us and Maison de Whisky, ranks amongst Europe’s leading distributors and producers. Our shared vision has therefore led us to act as importers of each other’s products.

Overview

History

Port Askaig is a range of single malts from the famous island of Islay and takes its name from the site of the same name in the north-east of the island, directly opposite Jura. It is a range of single malts all sourced from the same island. In keeping with the practice of the early 19th century, Port Askaig 100° Proof is bottled to Imperial 100 proof, which today corresponds to 57.1% Vol. Every expression within the range, from the youngest to the most mature bottlings, is selected in limited batches; the whiskies are all non-chill-filtered and no colouring agents are added under any circumstances.

Production method

The entire range is crafted from a selection of fine casks sourced from various distilleries across the region; every expression within the range, from the youngest to the most mature bottlings, is selected in limited batches, each lasting approximately one year, and Port Askaig ensures consistency in quality and character from one bottling to the next for each batch. Furthermore, to ensure that each whisky retains its original flavour and character, the whiskies are all non-chill-filtered and no colouring agents are added under any circumstances.
