Boukman

By Velier

Haiti has over 500 artisanal distilleries, more than ten times the number in the rest of the Caribbean. Like Velier, we have greatly contributed to the discovery and spread of Haitian rums and clairins in Europe and around the world. However, our constant search is never over, and in the wake of our philosophy and spirit of constant discovery, we could not fail to take an interest in Boukman.

Overview

History

Dutty Boukman was one of the first leaders of the Haitian revolution. Two centuries later, Boukman Botanical Rhum pays homage to him and thus to Haitian history and people by naming a rum produced in those very lands after the historic revolutionary, i.e. from two of Haiti's best rum terroirs: the rich cane fields of Croix des Bouquets and the northern cane fields around Cap Haïtien, the scene of Dutty Boukman's rebellion.

Production method

For the production of Boukman Botanical Rhum, only the finest agricultural rhum is used, distilled from fresh sugar cane juice and infused with botanicals and barks, many of which are native to Haiti and foraged in the wild. The result is a dry, intense and complex spirit with an elegant finish. Botanicals include native wood and bark, bitter orange peel, allspice, cloves, vanilla, bitter almond and cinnamon.
