By Velier
Lunazul was founded in 2002 by Francisco Beckmann, a seventh generation descendant of the oldest dynasty of tequila producers. Growing up with a deep reverence for agave, Francisco founded Tierra de Agaves with the intention of creating a superior tequila made with integrity, quality and simplicity. Sharing a love for the craft with his family, he passed on the traditions and business to his son Jorge, who became president in 2005.
Lunazul Tequila: the production method
This tequila is made from 100% Weber Blue agave plants cultivated by the Lunazul team in Jalisco.
When the agaves are ripe, the Jimadors select them by hand, cut off the leaves and reveal the piña: the heart of the agave. The piñas are then slowly cooked and then ground, leaving only the pure sugary agave pulp, ready for fermentation with the family's own yeasts.
Each batch, created and selected by the Maestro Tequilero, is distilled twice in customised cognac stills. The Reposado, Añejo and Cristalino varieties are aged for 6-18 months in charred white oak ex-bourbon barrels.
