Kininvie
Kininvie
By Velier
Kininvie is a brand of the William Grant's group, with whom we started working in 2008, after a long series of negotiations, almost surprisingly managing to become their new distributor. Since then, a wonderful friendship has also developed with Charles Gordon, 80-year-old owner of William Grant's and visionary nomad. He is the man who invented the classification of single malts, and thanks to him and long chats on his boat I gave birth to my own classification of rums. William Grant's is proof that even a huge company can combine power with the spirit of its leader.
Overview
History
Kininvie is one of the most unknown and hidden distilleries in the Scottish Highlands. Strategically located astride the Conval Hills on Speyside, with access to pure water sources flowing to the distillery via natural aquifers and close to barley fields capable of meeting its entire production requirements, Kininvie shares its operating complex with the Glenfiddich and Balvenie distilleries. Rediscovered in the eyes of most only recently following the emergence of commercial brands of blended malts boasting their origin from this distillery, Kininvie has for many years fuelled the curiosity of the most discerning connoisseurs of the category for having always produced malts without ever releasing official bottlings - among the names used are those of Aldundee and Hazelwood - until today.
Production method
Founded in 1990 with the establishment of 6 Pot Stills from the turn of the last century, the Kininvie distillery has been producing since then under the supervision of a team of malt masters headed by Mr Stuart Watts since 2011. Double-aged in American hogsheads and European Sherry Butts, Kininvie 23 YO is the result of very limited batches, with individually numbered bottles. First launched with the first batch available on the Taiwan market, in the number of 5,000 bottles, Kininvie represents an absolute first in the world of Single Malts.
