Why it’s different

Miyagikyo Discovery Peated continues the path of the very few peaty single casks of the past, bottled in cask strength. The peaty aroma here is a skilful presence, which blends with vibrant fruity and smoky notes, in an intoxicating richness.

Masataka Taketsuru, father of Japanese whisky, is the founder of the Nikka Company, famous for its two distilleries Yoichi and Miyagikyo. Miyagikyo Distillery dates back to 1969 and is located near Sendai. Clean air, thermal springs, the right humidity for the aging of the wood and the pure water that flows from the subsoil; here are the determining factors for this choice. Miyagikyo hosts two different types of stills: Scottish pot still with ascending swan neck, to obtain a softer, lighter and more fruity distillate; and a 1960s Coffey double column imported from Scotland.
