The Speyside distillery that has done more than any other to define the very concept of Single Malt Scotch Whisky celebrates its 200th anniversary by looking to the future.

To mark this historic milestone, The Macallan is ushering in a new era for its visual identity, refreshing the design of its most iconic collections while staying true to their essence.

The project was developed under the creative direction of David Carson, one of the most influential figures in contemporary design, tasked with translating The Macallan’s heritage and DNA into a visual narrative. The result is an elegant, dynamic visual language that honors two centuries of history while propelling the brand into the future.

The restyling focuses on the Timeless Collections, specifically the Double Cask and Sherry Oak series, and is guided by a singular principle: evolving the form to reinforce the substance. While the aesthetic evolves, the whisky’s character remains steadfast. The aromatic profile that has made The Macallan a global icon - harmonious, deep, and refined - remains at the heart of every bottle. It is no coincidence that the campaign slogan reads: “You know me so well.”

A design rooted in origin

David Carson’s work began with a central element of The Macallan’s story: its connection to the land. The sinuous silhouettes of the new bottle and logo take direct inspiration from the distillery’s undulating green roof - an architectural masterpiece seamlessly integrated into the Speyside landscape. This design creates an immediate connection between the packaging and the Estate, making the dialogue between whisky, nature and place visible.

The triangular label, positioned just below the neck of the bottle, is no random detail. It refers to the famous “Sherry Triangle” in Andalusia - specifically Jerez de la Frontera - where the seasoned casks that define The Macallan’s aromatic profile and natural color are born.

Red dominates the new chromatic identity. Deeply rooted in the brand's history, it evokes the natural hues the whisky develops during aging and has been a hallmark of the distillery since its earliest expressions. Developed in collaboration with the Pantone Colour Institute™, “The Macallan Red” becomes a true visual signature. In contrast, the white accents recall the Albariza: the chalky soil typical of the Jerez region, as a further tribute to the world of Sherry.

The presentation boxes also feature a “wave pattern,” designed by Carson as an homage to the River Spey, which has sustained whisky production for centuries. This graphic element adds movement and depth, reinforcing the bond with the landscape.

Finally, on the back of the bottles, new symbols provide immediate recognition of the cask types used, highlighting the influence of American and European oak. The project is completed by an advanced traceability system: via a unique QR code, each bottle offers access to in-depth content, ensuring transparency, authenticity and a more immersive experience for enthusiasts.

One vision for two distinct collections

At the heart of The Macallan universe lies the marriage of Sherry and oak, the foundational element of the distillery’s style. Upon this foundation, the variable of time adds complexity and nuance, giving life to two complementary yet deeply consistent collections.

Double Cask Collection

The Double Cask Collection is born from the union of European and American oak casks, both seasoned with Sherry wine in the bodegas of Jerez de la Frontera. This collection tells a story of a journey spanning two centuries and thousands of miles: from the forests of two continents to Andalusian vineyards and, finally, the maturation warehouses of Speyside.

Three expressions currently feature the new packaging. The marriage of the two oak types creates a harmony of flavors that evolve with age, making the distillery’s signature style clearly visible in each expression.

Double Cask 12 Years Old: Fresh and citrus-led, with sweet malt notes.

Double Cask 15 Years Old: More complex, characterized by dried fruit, toffee and vanilla, with hints of oak, chocolate and apple on the nose.

Double Cask 18 Years Old: Round and rich, perfectly balanced between sweet spices and toasted nuances of vanilla, orange zest and cigars, with an exceptionally long finish featuring a spicy touch of cinnamon.

Sherry Oak Collection

The Sherry Oak Collection represents the most classic expression of The Macallan's heritage. These whiskies mature exclusively in European oak casks seasoned with Sherry, resulting in a natural mahogany hue and unmistakable aromatic complexity.

Both expressions in this series embody the historical soul of the distillery, with a depth that intensifies with age.

Sherry Oak 12 Years Old: A fresh, alluring nose with notes of apple blossom, tropical fruit and pastries.

Sherry Oak 18 Years Old: Richer and more complex, with hints of dried fruit, ginger and vanilla, a smooth palate and a lingering finish.

The Six Pillars of The Macallan

In its new packaging, the distillery’s visual identity reflects its pioneering spirit while honoring its history. For this vision, David Carson drew direct inspiration from the production pillars of The Macallan - which he knows well from past collaborations - reinterpreting them graphically.

The Six Pillars are the founding principles that have always defined the distillery’s identity:

The Macallan Estate: The 485-acre property in Craigellachie, Speyside: the heart of the distillery and a symbol of its unbreakable bond with the land.

Curiously Small Stills: These unusually small stills ensure maximum contact between the spirit and the copper, creating a rich, robust distillate.

Exceptional Oak Casks: Casks selected and crafted with total control over the entire supply chain, from the forest to maturation.

Sherry Wine Seasoning: The process of seasoning with Sherry that gives the whisky its aromatic depth and natural color. Recently, The Macallan acquired a stake in Grupo Estévez, owners of the renowned Valdespino bodega, to ensure privileged access to premium casks.

Natural Colour: Every hue in The Macallan whiskies is derived solely from the interaction between spirit and wood, with no added coloring.

Mastery: The knowledge passed down through generations of distillers, coopers and whisky makers, enabling excellence at every stage.

These six pillars are not mere abstract concepts but living principles, now translated into a new visual language that reaffirms why The Macallan remains the ultimate benchmark in the world of single malt.
