Why it’s different

The series that Japanese micro-distillery Chichibu has dedicated to the Parisian capital continues with a third bottling. The 2022 edition comes from a selection of only eight casks, including a first fill ex bourbon peate from 2013, three Virgin Oak from 2013 and a Port Pipe also from the same year. The three 2014 whiskies, on the other hand, were stuffed into two quarter casks and a cask that had contained red wine. After a period of several months to harmonise the blend, here are 1833 bottles at 52.8%, with no added colouring agents and no cold filtering. The style is the one that has made Ichiro Akuto's distillery great, a whisky with very pronounced flavours, spicy, with many edges and made indignant by an eccentric cask in red wine, yet without a shadow of a flaw. The beautiful label depicts the Obelisk of Luxor, an ancient Egyptian monument that has stood in Place de la Concorde, Paris, since 1836.

How do I drink it?

After not even seven years of ageing, this whisky has already gained such complexity that drinking it neat is the best and perhaps even the only way to follow its many textures. Getting lost among the myriad paths that Chichibu Paris Edition 2022 opens up is very easy, but in the end, pleasure is the only possible destination for those lucky enough to taste it.
