Why it’s different

Habitation Velier makes a stop on the island of Mauritius with a release from the Rhumerie de Chamarel, a distillery founded in 2008 by the Couacaud family. On its approximately 220 hectares of land, the distillery cultivates and selects three different varieties of sugar cane – a commendable approach that guarantees the authenticity of the raw material and supports the local economy.

Produced from pure sugarcane juice that has undergone two days’ fermentation, this rum is crafted using a production process of the highest quality: it is distilled twice in two 20 HL pot stills. This technique, inspired by the Charente region and typical of Cognac production, is very rare in the world of rum and is designed to enhance the richness and sensory precision of the spirit. The unique profile of this expression is rounded off by eight years’ ageing in ex-Cognac casks: a step that marks a genuine world first.
