Why it’s different

This rum was distilled in 2017 and is an expression of the <>H mark. Like the two previous releases, the third edition of the Magnum Series aims to present a range of different rum expressions that, while sharing the same basic raw material, offer totally distinct flavour profiles.

While the first series featured the photographs of Elliott Erwitt and the second paid tribute to Alex Webb, for this edition Cristina de Middel, Spanish photographer and outgoing president of Magnum, was invited. De Middel spent a week in artistic residence in Hampden at the invitation of La Maison & Velier. Four shots taken during her stay were chosen to decorate the labels of the third series.

The Magnum Hampden <>H 8 label is accompanied by an image that Cristina de Middel titled 'Gyalis': a word from Jamaican slang that refers, without negative connotations, to a charming, easy-going guy who is successful with women.

How do I drink it?

This bottle of 8-year-old Hampden is part of the third edition of the Magnum series, a project launched in 2021 at the initiative of Luca Gargano. The aim is to create a bridge between the excellence of the great masters of rum and the work of the photographers of the Magnum agency, founded in 1947 by legendary figures such as Robert Capa and Henri Cartier-Bresson.

For this third edition, the collection lands in the Jamaican region of Trelawny, Jamaica, right in the heart of the Hampden distillery, famous since 1753 for its complex and highly aromatic rums, obtained through ancestral methods of fermentation and distillation. A crucial moment in the distillery's history was the handover of ownership to the Hussey family in 2009. Under their management, Hampden inaugurated the practice, hitherto unheard of for them, of ageing rum on site in Jamaica's hot and humid climate.
