Trelawny Rum 1959 Private Stock Cees Van Wees
Why it’s different
Stored for over 60 years in the cellars of the A. van Wees family, this extraordinary Jamaican rum from 1959 is a true testament to history. It comes directly from the personal reserve of Cees van Wees, a well-known Dutch merchant and distiller who acquired it in 1962 and decided to keep it as a treasure.
For Cees, this spirit was unique and should not be blended or altered. It remained in casks for 28 years, until 1988, when it was transferred to demijohns, where it remained safe, away from prying eyes. Its rediscovery came in 2019, when Luca Gargano spotted it during a visit to the family business, recognising the Hampden style just from the nose.
This rum was bottled at full strength in 2024, with an alcohol content of 71.9%. It is an extremely limited edition, with only 218 bottles produced, and represents a special bond between generations.
