Why it’s different

Mother Mesccia is an excellent white rum born from the encounter between Haitian terroir and Monegasque craftsmanship. Inspired by an ancient tradition of the Principality of Monaco, it represents the modern reinterpretation of the historic 'mesccia', born in the 17th century.

The ancient 'mesccia' was a blend of Caribbean rum brought to Monaco by Genoese sailors as well as European spirits such as Vermouth and Marsala. Today, the Principality and Velier revive that tradition in a modern key, producing a high-quality rum no longer blended, but aged in ex-Vermouth and ex-Marsala barrels. The white distillate thus represents the 'mother' from which the future barrel-aged 'Mesccia' will evolve, and for this reason it has taken the name Mother Mesccia.

How do I drink it?

Ideal for both smooth tasting and the creation of sophisticated cocktails.

Focus

The rum is produced from the prized Crystalline sugar cane, cultivated in the Grand Cru of Saint-Michel-de-l'Attalaye in Haiti. The production process involves a long fermentation of the pure cane juice with wild yeasts, followed by an initial distillation in a bain-marie in a discontinuous still directly at the distillery in Port-au-Prince. The semi-finished product, with an alcohol content that varies from year to year, is then transferred to Monaco, where the second distillation takes place in a Khote still at L'Orangerie / Distillerie de Monaco.

It is at this final stage that the distinctive character of the rum is defined.
