Why it’s different

After proposing releases matured in barrels that have previously contained Heaven Hill bourbon, Caroni rums and Bonollo grappa, in 2024 Adriatico presents an exclusive limited edition in collaboration with Planteray, an iconic brand much appreciated by rum lovers around the world.

The result is an Amaretto with an intense and mouth-watering nose, with hints of almond and vanilla that combine with nuances of pistachio, hazelnut and coconut, complemented by coffee and citrus fruits. The palate is round and elegant, very balanced, on notes of chocolate, dehydrated banana, ginger, pepper, liquorice, nutmeg and cinnamon. The finish is long and fresh, almost mentholated, with tones of maraschino cherry, cloves, oak and cappuccino.

Focus

Adriatico has therefore worked hand in hand with Maison Ferrand, the parent company of Planteray Rum and its deus ex machina, Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel.

In order to create an exceptional Amaretto and to select the perfect cask for the purpose, Adriatico relied on Fannie Thibaud, Maison Ferrand's Head of Creation and Experimentation, who commented on the choice of a Fijian Rum cask as follows: "To emphasise even more the intense aromatic palette of Amaretto Adriatico, it was very important to match it with a rum with an equally strong personality. Amaretto is rather soft, so we needed a tannic and structured rum to achieve a well-balanced palate. The notes of almond and sweet orange perfectly complement the coffee and roasted flavours of the Fiji rum, which also has some delicately wild notes that enhance the combination of these two distillates even more'.

'Rum has a special place in the hearts of Italians, as does amaretto. After our wonderful collaboration with Caroni, we decided to start a rum-related collaboration again, and Alexandre Gabriel, with its exceptional products and PLANTERAY Fiji, seemed a beautiful exotic choice. The product has an exceptional strength and despite the 28% alcohol content, the Italian sweetness of amaretto goes well with the Fijian sunshine that explodes in this rum. We drink it neat without ice. It is unique'. These are the words of the creator of Amaretto Adriatico, Jean Robert Bellanger.
