HABITATION VELIER - HAMPDEN LROK WHITE 62,5%

From 265 years, the Hampden Distillery has been producing rums of different flavor profiles and level of esters, historically destinated both to neat consumption and to the several rum blenders in England. All these formulas are identified with specific unique acronyms: LROK means Light Rum Owen Kelly, because it was the ‘lighter’ formulas created by the legendary master distiller of the end of 19th century. It’s a medium/high-intensity white rum with a content of 350 grams of esters / hectoliter of pure alcohol, the index used for esters’ measure. Nowadays the markets are changing and productions of these kind of rums are going to disappear: this LROK has never been bottled in the history and it represents today an important heritage of the tradition of Trelawny, the region is north west Jamaica in which these particular rums are still produced.

Habitation Velier Hampden LROK White is a complex rum at high proof and it can be consumed in different ways: neat, to appreciate all its bouquet, or with few ice cubes to get it fresher and slightly diluited, maybe with also a zest of lime, to exalt all fruity notes. Mixology is obviously where it express better: with LROK, bartenders have a new, unexpected flavour to mix. It could give new expression to classic rum cocktails like Daiquiri and also it could be the base for completely new recipes. Moreover it can replace other spirits because of its original taste.

Long Pond Distillery is operating from the end of ‘700 in Trelawny, north west of Jamaica. Historically produced different types of rums destinated both to neat consumption and to the blenders in England. The same work was done by other distilleries in the region. But after the second world war many plants closed and Long Pond had requested to be in charge of reproducing the formulas of all distilleries closing, to continue to supply the blenders in the mother country. All these formulas are identified with specific unique acronyms: this STCᵔE means Simon Thompson Cambridge Estate from the name of the master distiller of the Cambridge Estate, the original distillery in which it was produced, that closed in 1945. It is definitely a high ester rum, 674 gr/hlpa, belonging to the so-called category of ‘continental flavoured’ rum, all those high esters rum destinated to blending only, considered too aromatic for a neat consumption. This STCᵔE has never been bottled in the history and it represents today an important heritage of the tradition of Trelawny and it’s a kind of rum that belong to a past today more and more rare.

HABITATION VELIER - SAVANNA HERR WHITE 62,5%

Savanna is a distillery in Reunion Island that produced many different kind of rums, both from molasses and from juice and also is specialized in the old ‘Grand Arome’ style, the French concept of high ester profiles. Normally to produce this style they use the Savalle single column, but this HERR (High Ester Rum Reunion) is a rare formula produced with pot still starting by a very complex fermented wash and so with a very unusual final aromatic profile. It contains 499,9 gr/hlpa of esters and it represents a new ‘side’ of high ester rums, not produced in Jamaica but in the Indian Ocean, by molasses only and with a French culture behind. Extremely original.
